We know that patient retention, engagement, and ultimately patient outcomes are important to our customers. Contingency management (CM) has been found to be effective in retaining patients, reducing substance use, and improving patient outcomes.
“A review of 15 controlled studies found that it increased the rate of abstention from opiates, cocaine, and tobacco during treatment and sometimes for months afterward. It also helps patients remain in treatment. One study compared two groups of cocaine addicts receiving intensive behavioral therapy. The group that also received vouchers contingent on abstinence were twice as likely to complete the program and three times as likely to have drug-free urine after two months” (Harvard Mental Health).
The premise behind CM is to use reinforcements, or rewards, to modify behaviors in a way that is positive and supportive. The CaredFor app now features CM. App users earn points for completing actions that support their long-term recovery inside the app. Once they earn enough points they can redeem for a prize. Prizes include stickers that can be shared inside the app, as well as monetary prizes and facility swag.
The CaredFor CM platform can be customized by the client to track inventory, prizes, and prize redemption – giving staff members greater insight into app user engagement. To learn more about how CM can benefit your organization, reach out to our team at support@caredfor.com.
